Is there possibility to have output not to rendered macro but to json or xml? I would like to use it in my script.

is there any documentation about how to use the selected documents when checkboxes are displayed? Is it a javascript API, is there any (hidden) input filled in with the value so that the tree with checkboxes can be just included in an html form as a control to select a (list of) page(s)?
